Note: I don't have all of my Prac, Qually, and Race data because I didn't think I'd be writing up about it. But I averaged 1:35-1:36 on primes before hitting high 1:32s during optional tyres with low fuel load toward the end.

Notes
This is a fun and easy track as most corners are the same so tuning is all about grip and exit drive.

The bumpiness of Malaysia means you do not rely on downforce unless you're very skilled and quick to react. Obviously good downforce will make you faster with corners like these, but if you're not a god at driving, you will find the car can spin out quite easily when riding the ripple strips and it's better to make full use of the track than it is to drop a gear and take it safe—so tune for it!

Because of the many low to medium speed corners, your biggest downfall will be tyre wear (at least it was for me over race distance). You can put away some very fast laps here, but if you have endurance in mind, you need to stay at a constant 75% around corners knowing that you can burst some quick speed whenever you need to.

The turn most likely to mess with you here is turn 5 because it invites a lot of speed but won't reward you as you exit it completely out of line for turn 6. Get turn 6 wrong and you will lose about half a second by the time you hit turn 7. Done correctly, Turn 7 and 8 are treated as one nice smooth turn that you can exit from very quickly into the small straight.

There isn't much else to say apart from expecting a bit of a work out negotiating all the tight turns. This track is easy and will reward so long as you don't lose concentration. My set up excels in decent braking with fast entry and exit speeds. Tyre wear is sacrificed a fair bit for great turning grip which is crucial here.

Final Thoughts:
I went with a 1 stop strategy and it bit me on the ass. At one point I was somewhere around 45 seconds in the lead with around 15 laps remaining. I damaged my front wing rear-ending an oblivious back marker (I bet you it was Glock...the retard) and soon after my optionals gave in. I had several opportunities to pit in to fix the front wing and load on a new set of tyres, but I thought such a massive lead would be fine. In the remaining 5 laps, I broke traction badly many times and spun out badly three times. On the final lap the leading pack overtook me and I placed 4th about 10 seconds behind. This is a 2 stop strategy tuning! Had I taken the second pit stop, I would have still been released in front of everyone and continued to pull faster times than them with the fresh tyres, making it a 'walk in the park' win.

I made some tweaks and got 1.32. With your setup I got only 1.33.5.

I used your dry set up - brilliant! I then tweeked the gear ratios to the following:

1st 147kph
2nd 182kph
3rd 216kph
4th 242kph
5th 271kph
6th 306kph
7th 347kph

The resulting (practice) lap time (in a Force India) with Prime Tyres was 1:36.842 - give it a go. :D

Nice setup, changed both wing angles up by 1 each though as the car was sliding a bit.

Got a 1:29.742 in career with Sauber with no assists but with tyre sim and fuel sim off. :D

anyone else getting in the 27's or lower, well anoying "im doing a 1:37 here's my setup!" really? i think everyone would be better off just going with defualt setup for those times! prob made the setup Worse! ... just sayin

Does anyone know a good setup that sacrifes some speed but is conservative on tyres.
Because I struggle with terrible tyre wear, especially in the wet and am happy to sacrifce pace because I am very good at driving defensively.

BIGGEST effect on tyre ware there is is ENGINE mix.

Go into Gp mode, run 5 laps on the options with your setup in RICH. 5 actual laps. then go and do the same again but keep the fuel mix on LEAN, drive back into garage both times and check the difference.

Big savings can be found in softer springs, ARB @ 1/11 (for best tyre ware), and finally make sure your alingment camber is all the way to the right so you're only running 0.5 negative camber, and keep the toe as default. too much negative camber >i.e 3.50 will scrub the inside of the tyre at high speeds on straights. if it's a track like hungry where there really are no straights i cant see a big gain in putting camber all the way to minimum nagative camber (all the way right) as u will lose out on cornering...

but like i said, when i start to get down to the deep orange on my tyres, i'll put engine into normal or Lean mix until i pit. and if you're driving in the rain you will want lean mix anyways, TC or not, RICh and your wheels spin in the wet, i only knock it up for long straights ala canada. then back to Lean for the rest. hope that helps, but do some testing with springs lower and the fuel mix, rich & Lean see the difference
